Welcome! My name is Dr. Dana Russo, Founder and CEO of Essenza Health. I am a board-certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and a Functional Medicine Physician. I am also a mother, a wife, a daughter, and a friend. It has been an absolute honor to have these roles as well as treating patients in Chicago’s North Shore my entire career. I would like to share how my professional and personal journey led me to create Essenza Health and how Essenza Health can help you. My goal is to create a place that truly is The Essence of Health Optimization.

I began my residency and career at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital and remained there as an attending physician for many years.  However, through my own personal health journey, I realized my health, life, and career needed, and wanted, a transformation. The course I was on was unsustainable.  Not only unsustainable, but dangerous to my health and happiness.

So, with a conscious, yet heavy heart, I decided to step away from a successful traditional practice and take the advice I so often gave to my patients - breathe, meditate, reduce stress, get restorative sleep, drink more water, do yoga, seek the support of a life coach, identify your passion, and build a plan how to optimize your health and well-being. A core belief I have is around balance and boundaries of energy management.  I acted on my own advice.

During this downtime and with deep reflection, I was able to discover, and uncover, a new focus in medicine and life – to commit to the practice of preventative and restorative medicine. By taking the best parts of my traditional medical training and dedicating myself to continuous improvement in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine, I can commit fully to supporting my patients’ goals. My goal is to support an underserved area of healthcare focusing on health optimization, unbound by the normal confinements and restrictions of traditional healthcare. At my core, my vision is to create a medical practice where people feel radically supported in their health journey.

By utilizing my traditional training, as well as advanced education in Functional Medicine, my team and I can offer an integrated approach to medicine with treatments, modalities, and therapies that support our patients to their fullest potential.  We utilize advanced lab panels, testing, data-driven decision making, and of course your own subjective description on how you are feeling.  This allows us to partner with you to create the best plan of care with solutions that are curated specifically for you.
